BDR and Floral Tissue Intensify Birth Registration Awareness at Ga West Municipal Hospital
The Births and Deaths Registry (BDR), in collaboration with Floral Tissue, on Tuesday, 23rd June 2026, conducted a sensitization programme at the Child Welfare Clinic of the Ga West Municipal Hospital to promote timely birth registration among mothers, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
The exercise formed part of ongoing efforts to increase birth registration coverage and ensure that every child born in Ghana acquires a legal identity from birth. Participants were educated on the importance of birth registration and its role in securing children’s rights and access to essential services.
The sensitization team also visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where they engaged parents and health workers on the need to register newborns promptly. The interaction provided an opportunity to address concerns surrounding birth registration and encourage parents to complete the registration process as early as possible.
Leading the delegation was the Acting Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway, accompanied by Head of Project, District Registrars and some staff from the Head Office. During the visit, Mr. Botchway personally signed and issued birth certificates to newly registered babies, underscoring the Registry’s commitment to bringing registration services closer to the public.
He encouraged parents to take advantage of available registration services and stressed that timely birth registration is the foundation of a child’s legal identity and future opportunities.
The Births and Deaths Registry continues to strengthen partnerships with healthcare institutions and stakeholders to ensure that no child is left unregistered.
